Camie Palmer, Kindergarten

Camie PalmerI grew up on a ranch in rural northern Utah. I learned quickly that hard work and perseverance were vital for success. This has clearly been the case in my teaching career. I have successfully taught grades K-2 for the past 44 years. Through my experiences, I found teaching five year olds was a passion. Five year olds are delightfully curious and enjoy learning through movement and exploration and a variety of hands-on activities. My philosophy is to educate the total child academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.

I was mentored by two amazing women, Joan Bowden and Alice Chase, that encouraged me to be honest and forthright when collaboratively working in an early childhood environment. After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Studies, I realized that my love for five year olds required an Early Childhood degree. I completed an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Dance. My love for movement has been an important part of daily curriculum in a kindergarten setting. I was the classroom host teacher for Artsbridge (Reading in Motion) program at Utah State University, which led me to become an Artsbridge professional mentor.

I am jumping into the CCID educational family with enthusiasm and experience that will give students the foundation they need to become successful active learners!

Melanie Dean, Middle School English Language Arts

Melanie Dean

I'm new to CCID, and excited to teach 7th & 8th grade Language Arts! I got my Secondary Ed Teaching degree in Literature at Utah State University (GO AGGIES!) and have experience teaching 2nd through 8th grade Reading and Literature. I've also taught a lot of violin lessons over the last 30 years.

I will say that middle school is my happy place! I love helping students find their voice, and I am excited about all the high-quality, relevant literature we get to explore this year.

I'm a mom to four fantastic kids, two cats, and a puppy. My husband is a talented structural engineer, and we like to hike and explore, play card and board games, jam on our instruments, and watch comedies and alien shows. I personally love Wordle, Sudoku, cooking, staying in touch with friends, and playing in the local symphony. Covid gave us the chance to move out of SLC, and we are happy to have our forever home in Providence!

Spencer Johnson, Middle School Science

Spencer Johnson

Spencer grew up in Smithfield, UT and attended university at Utah State University. Initially planning on a career in medicine, he earned a degree in biochemistry and saved anatomy for his last semester (hoping to keep it fresh in his mind for med school entrance exams). While in the cadaver lab, he passed out three classes in a row- the sights and smells were too much! Faced with having to figure out an entire new life plan with only a few weeks of school left (obviously med school wouldn't be a good option any longer), Spencer applied to a wide variety of jobs and landed a middle school science teaching position in West Jordan as COVID started shutting everything down.

Spencer has enjoyed teaching more than he ever expected and is excited to be at CCID. When not in school, Spencer enjoys baking, playing piano, running, reading, and budget traveling- which usually results in spending more money to get me out of the sticky situations that extreme penny pinching puts him in.
