hey we're going to go ahead and begin we do want to let our families know this is being recorded So will be able to upload this on to our school website as well we want to welcome our families to our second family I'm activity night just really think our counseling team Miss Amanda and we have accounting interns miss Emily and Miss Ciara and thank you Miss Holly who we doing our presentation if they give us to Graham and Harper right there this evening as well out tonight if you do have a question we're asking our families to please type in the Q&A and we'll have our panelists available to help answer those questions we look for it you really an arts and education in a grape I'm eating focusing on self-esteem and self encouragement and we just thank you all for taking time out and joining us from very excited so thank you very much and welcome San Dimas Holly that's going to go to you to start okay never we are getting all getting on zoom and we in a wait for everyone to log on before we start our lesson a lot of the younger grades anyway we like to tell joke so I have a joke that's perfect for tonight all right what does an artist do when someone doesn't like their art they just brush it off and it all right so the things that you will need is you should wearing old clothes or an apron or both and the paints that were given to you right here and water in a little container and paper towel make sure you have all of those things could really use all of them all right so what we're going to do first is Randy some color blending to create what looks like a sunset sky so this is kind of what we're going for but everybody's is going to be different so don't worry if yours doesn't look just like this it's not supposed to It's supposed to look your way so I'm just going to be showing you how to do some blending okay and the first thing that we're going to do is prepare our pallet I have my colors in order of how much I'm going to use my yellow I will use the most of but I still only need about the size of maybe a little bigger than 1/4 there we go can you see that we can always add more but it's hard to put it back I like to start Wiki maybe less than what I'm going to need all right then I'm going to do white and I'm just going to fill this half of my plate with the different colors that I'm going to be needing and then we're going to True Colors so the way I am going to do about the size of a quarter no red very much I'm going to do about a nickel for the rent actually I'm going to do a little bit more because I am going to use the rest of the Knicks so maybe I'll do a quarter blue Adidas Fame quarter and I'm not going to do any black yet going to save that for later no some of you especially your students probably noticed these colors what's special about those colors red blue and yellow primary colors are the colors that make the other colors all right so for mixing are colored we can grab just one of your medium to large size paint brushes I think this is the largest one that you have where can I create some orange so I'm going to give you a couple seconds see if you can tell your parents what two colors I need to use to make orange I'm just going to take a little bit of each of those colors and its world and in the middle of my plate so did you guess red and yellow. But we're going to do so I'm just scrape up some of that yellow got some red in the middle and just stir them up and we just want to color that's kind of in between the red and yellow cuz we're going to blend in any way this is going to be a little bit easier for us if we have that Blended color sometimes you can just go straight on your canvas with some red and some yellow and make your orange ride on my canvas okay so you probably have a lot of pain on your breast and you just wipe that off a little bit on your plate then we're going to take first before we stick it in the water try to get as much pain as you can enough so that you get your water out Jackie so then I'm going to throw it in the water and tap it on the bottom of the bowl while I'm swirling it helps get the paint out that far up in the British brexit so now my precious what iceworld it I'm going to wipe it on my paper towel clean it off give it a pinch and then I kind of wiggle it and pulled it out of the paper towel Dairy Queen is clean cuz we're going to mix any color okay so now I'm going to take some of my why do you say that I have kind of a glob of white and different spot of my plate now I'm going to go on this side of my red and scoop up the little bit with my read it can you see that little almost dripping not that much is on there and now I'm going to stir that I'm getting pink that got a nice color peak you can have if you want it to be darker you know what color you would act more red if you want it lighter more white okay then I'm going to do that same thing wash my brush out. Colors I need start with my biggest fresh and the first color that we're going to use the Yellow River yellow at the bar Navarre painting and we are going to go up about a third of the way up the painting away if you find halfway. then just come down a little bit and that's about how far we're going to come up doesn't have to be exact there's no true measurement but what I'm going to do to get a lot of pain but be careful don't let it drip then it kind of BDC that I'm just going to draw lines back and forth and try to get this whole area is bottom third filled with yellow and yellow special attention to those edges because those edges don't like to be covered very well so we got to make sure we go over and get them we can't we can't forget those edges and we want to have that pink be nice and wet stuff it starts to In-N-Out or dry out grab some more yellow and just love it on there you just don't want to much that it's dripping or having a big fix Street you want it to be nice and fixed so that it stays wet but you don't want to have huge gloves I thought okay which color that we're going to use is orange we're going to just do I would say we're going to do a line of orange that is about just ride along top of that is the thickness of your brush if you were to push your brush all the way down this is the thickness of the brush so it is not that now this is the fun part when you start going back and forth and coming down into the yellow and back up into the orange and down and have a yellow and orange it looks so cool all right we are going to have a black area at the bottom so make sure that you still have some yellow even if you put a black line at the bottom later all right so now that the next one is red and I'm going to describe some up in the same brush and I'm going to come up here and just do about let's see what can I say the size of this would be let's take this cuz I think this is about how thick we would want to be because I'm going to go back down the orange a little bit with it let me have my red come up to there was something I can measure it with make sure we save room for all the colors so you might want to call Lee if you could pause for just one second I actually can't post for too long though because if I go over top of the paint so wet I know it is a very quick process to do this kind of blending because you have to do it while it's still wet so I totally understand I miss going to blend this right here and then I will pause after. I'm coming down into the orange and back up into the rest and if you want to do some loop-de-loops and then Spirit lets you you can do it however you would like let's just create a little bit more of a smooth look to it what you're going for is best to create a blended color in between each one of those colors and you can have some streaks in there I'm going to pull the closer so you can see it now and you can I have a little bit of streaks and since this is the sky was cool about that is it's really forgiving because that can look like clouds and you can just look like you know when you look at the sunset it's not perfectly Blended all the way down so it's a lot of forgiveness there okay and when I come up with my brush a little bit it kind of leads a little Mark you might have noticed that so I kind of like to take my brush all the way across every time I go all the way off the canvas and that way I'm making sure that I'm getting those edges that are kind of hard to paint too be sure you have something on your table if you're working on a table so that you can go over the edges and not have to worry about it okay so now I'm just going to explain what I'm going to do next so that if anybody needs to catch up they can and then we'll go ahead and just do it from there, let this dry okay so the next thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to use the bank into the red so as you can see on this one we had yellow orange and then a little bit of a red color and then that pink color blended into their then we can meet blue and then we're going to blend down with white a little bit and then this at the very top is our darker color so purple or it's on this one kind of bluish purple I will still have to work with it while it's wet and her to get those colors Blended but I'll try to move a little bit slower and another thing that's really cool is that you can always go back if you feel like one thing that can happen is that the darker color can just overtake the lighter color if you're not careful you might run out of yellow space all of a sudden cuz your red just wants to take over if that happens just let it dry and then you can add some more yellow and then orange and blend it into the red later okay trust me it happened to me too okay so now that this has kind of dried a little bit I'm just going to put a little the bed just right on top but because I'm going to go into pink next I don't want any yellow in there and I have orange yellow and red on those breasts also there's some orange on you can either grab a different brush or you can just wash out the stain brush and use that again I like to just wash out the same brush because when it's a little bit wet after washing it I can help the paint blend a little bit better can I take my fresh and just kind of jump it up and down in my water hitting the bottom and then swirl and jump up and down my fan on my paper towel make sure cleaning to get that just cuz some time because you're trying to get out of there like to hide so like I said I'm going to just do a little line of that meant to keep that wet line across there so that we can use it for blending the pinking Watch Pink on my breast make sure it goes all the way across okay I got that above it and then blend down into it okay and my pink is starting to dry a little bit a little bit more pink together you might need to chill my paper plate is an actual paper plate but kind of absorbed the little bit okay so now I'm going to come in here it doesn't seem like a finding very well you might need a little bit more of that wet red in there I can forward them to make sure I get those badges drag my brush all the way across okay I'm at a little bit of red when my brush with the pink and just learned that one spot that doesn't seem to be blaming very well this is fun to do because you can always go back and fix anything you need a little bit more red you want your red to go up higher to start dipping I'm going back up again make that red part picker if you want to streaks all right make sure there's no yellow on you because using glue if there is a yellow on my brush what color will end up in my sky blue and yellow make meaning I'm just going to that we didn't mix are purple that we will sorry I forgot about that part at the very top so for the blue of white on one side of my brush and I'm going to put some glue just going to scoop it and put some on the other side of my brush this is really fun you see that okay so now I'm going to make a line with us and see what happens I'm going to it's ripped I had a little too much pain down there too long okay once that's dry I can go over that with the orange I'm going to make a line up here that blue White grab some more white blending different amounts of blue and white up here slowly go down into your pink area it will create a little bit of a purple color let's not go with the blue and white how we can mix it all the way with be like cloud pink areas dry already I'm just going to get a little bit more pink on there this place gets Blended hear anything that you can do is if it gets dry a little bit of water I just dipped it in a little corner of my fresh really cool all right so I'm going to do Straight Up Blue very beautiful bright blue really nicely so I'm just going back and forth and back and forth and you can see I'm going all the way over and I like to start on the ijust 2 almost to the top mixing purple some kind of dark purple for the very very I'm just going to show you can see this is where that little drip happened when I brought that blue in the light over and it tripped off of my brush so I just wiped it off and it doesn't look awesome right now I don't think I know I can fix it after it dries looking to try to fix it now leave it alone because now I know how to do this I know what colors are going to go here and what colors I need to blend all right so for the last part of your sky purple you can use that same brush as long as it doesn't have any yellow or orange on it if it has blue and pink those colors that are in purple blue and red are in purple if we want a little lighter purple we can do blue and pink so yeah I'll be alright all right I'm going to take a glove read and scrape it on my plate cuz now I'm going to make some purple so what is the other color I need I'm going to grab a glob of blue and swirling together on my play and you can add more red to have more of a reddish purple or you can add more blue to have more of a bluish purple add a little bit of white and it was it would be more like a lavender color and he's going to keep it this darker purple color come up here into this wet Blue Line back and forth and come down into the blue a little bit if you want to have little darker areas like little streaks in the blue once your brushes follow most dried out just take your brush across there don't give you some different colors in that blue sky if you would like to okay so you should have just about soon anyway a whole canvas painted and if you don't that's okay cuz you can finish up while we're doing our next week so we're going to let these by and by the time we come back we'll be trying and we can be okay thank you Miss Holly I'm sure all of your paintings are beautiful and special in their own very way tonight we want to share also with you our website evening your grandma's going to read this beautiful book to us I am enough right now I want to share with you this book and this one isn't in our virtual library but it's one that I that we all enjoy and it's titled I can do hard things so we're going to listen to that and this is going to be open but we want to talk about today which is self-empowerment and self-esteem and self-confidence and acceptance of others and diversity cuz we're all special and unique and beautiful in our own special way I'm going to play this you're going to read the book I can do hard things it's the mindful affirmations for kids written by Gabi Garcia and illustrated by charity Russell I can do hard things I don't always celebrate he's confident or strong sometimes it seems easier to follow others along I get so many messages about how I should be pulled in different directions I feel wobbly when this happens I listen for that quiet voice inside when I pay attention that voice is my guide I connect the love and strength that brings it helps you remember I can do hard things I can be a friend to myself I can feel all my feelings I can ask for help I can try again I can't believe in myself I can speak up when it would be easier to stay quiet I can say no even to my friend I can apologize if I can forgive I can understand different points of view and I can care for my community I can choose kindness I can practice peace I can share my gifts with the world I can be myself be about what we think he'll say or do what's hard for me may not be hard for you you are you and I am me you are the world differently I hope you and thank you for sharing that look Miss Amanda it's so wonderful okay so I I'm going to share my screen if you guys and we're going to talk about self-empowerment for just a couple minutes so I love how I book talk about how we can do hard things I think it's really important for us to recognize that we how to overcome our challenges and sometimes we Face our challenges with confidence like that girl at the top and sometimes we might be a little bit more nervous or scared and that's okay too so if you think about it we've all gone through things that we've all overcome challenges and that doesn't mean that it wasn't difficult or that the outcome might not have been what we wanted it to be but hopefully we were able to overcome those challenges and grow and learn from them so it's important to remember that you can do hard things so we're going to talk about self-empowerment and how we can Empower ourselves to do those her things but first I want to make sure that we know empowerment is a lot of us have probably heard the word self-esteem or self-confidence before so office team is understanding that we have worth in value it's believing in ourselves and that we better and self-confidence is believing in our ability to do things believing that we can do her things like we talked about do something power it means that we can rely on our in strength to meet and overcome our difficulties with kind of a combination of self-esteem and self-confidence the next thing I want to talk about is how our words have power so the way we talk to ourselves makes a the more we tell ourselves that we can't do something the less likely we are to be successful do we want to try not to have a negative or a fixed mindset but rather have a growth mindset so instead of saying I can't do this maybe we say I just haven't figured it out yet or I'm still working on this so gross mindset is focusing on how we can change and grow and it's looking at our stripes it's also important to remember that we are all unique we're just like our campus is they're all going to be different and that's perfect the book explain that sometimes things that are hard for one person might not be as hard for another person and no two people look or think exactly the same and that's we are all special and unique in our very own way it's important to recognize that our differences are bad they're good and it can be easy to compare ourselves to other people's strengths and compare our weaknesses to those strengths but that's not really fair so we all have things that we're good at and things that were maybe not as good and we should recognize of her all different and that's okay our differences can be a strength so let's talk about strength we have drinks all of us do and I recognize that for some people it may be more difficult to identify our strength sometimes we have to retrain our brains to focus on me just take some practice so we identify her thanks and have a growth mindset then it becomes easier to empower ourselves but we need to do those heart thing so if we can do this for ourselves it's also helpful to do this really impactful to let other people know the things when you recognize their strength so I encourage you guys to think about what your strengths are and to try to give yourself and others recognition for those drinks and I just want to let you all know that you are enough focus on your strength and you are all special and unique so we're going to do an activity now that focuses on our strengths and I'm going to turn the time over to miss Ciara some think you're only that was awesome and I'm so everyone your family should have received a packet that had one of these trees in it and just like miss Emily was talking about about all of us having different strengths and how we're all unique and different hats to the tree you got a few that goes all over a whole bunch of different strengths so the people who put this together spent three years trying to think about what makes humans like what is the best in the documents on and they came up with 6 score groups with 24 different character strengths that they came up with so just briefly wanted to talk about a few of those and then we'll turn some time over to you guys to talk to my mother so the strength of wisdom covers less learning these things and use their knowledge and thinking to solve problems there's the strength of Courage which we kind of talked a little bit about which is being able to face challenges and being willing to strengths of humanity which is being a good friend to your family to your friends to anyone that you come across the strength of justice so helping healthy community life Prince be personal strengths to keep you and your abilities and good perspective and strengths of transcendence which is appreciation strengths and create connections with you and the world around you so we know everybody bring something different to the table and especially and families were all unique and families can bring out the best in us then sometimes we not supposed to mess we're going to focus on the strengths that we can bring out any other so on your tree paper you were given in the section where the roots are we're going to write the different strengths that our family brings to the table and up in the leaves we're going to write how we have use those things in the past or how we plan on using them in the future and we're going to give you guys probably about 10 minutes to fill that out as a family to think about and talk about and then we'll head back on with Miss Holly Miss Holly you want us to invite them to do that may be on their own time when they can do that and we can continue painting or do we still need some more drying time let's get a consensus other people's paintings are because I know I may have work faster so maybe mine is dry but maybe other people's may not be dry so if you just want to go into the responses said we need more drive time so thank you wonderful so then I'm going to play some nature sounds and if you want to put in the question and answers we are ready then we can go from there Miss Tierra someone just asked will you please remind them what they're putting on the routes and then what they're putting on the least yes so the roots are the different strengths that either have individually or as a family and then in the leaves where you're going to write how you have use those drinks and then passed or how you plan on using them in the future and lucky I have a little fan that I have clicked on here so I just barely did that though okay so you're going to have a choice I get I'm going to show you two different kinds of trees assembly just asked what are we writing on there thank you Emily okay so two different kinds of trees one of them is only three steps it's pretty simple and then the other one is a little bit more complicated and you get to choose what you want to do or you can create your own tree if you want to all right so the first set of tree that I'm going to show you beat that when you put some together when you paint them you get something that looks like this so we want to have a black line across the bottom which will just be the ground and then we can do our trees coming from there so it is dry at the bottom you can go ahead and paint thin black line only about as thick as my finger may be a little bit thicker than my finger so don't come too far up or you'll run out of room for your tree okay oh and this is another kind of pine tree to that you can do in this one assist you draw a line and then you make scribbles that go from smallest and get bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger as they go down and they have a list open of a triangle shaped right there but it's just scribbles so step one for the pine tree's I know you can all it's just the line you might want to have a line of them or just maybe one big country and if you don't want to do a pine tree then you can just wake up this won't take very long I'll just do it time to put black paint on my pallet now hopefully you still have room if you need to be to put the Black by the purple if you don't have very much room cuz it's okay if it gets a little purple in it and put size of quarter okay so for this one I'm going to make it depends on how big you want your tree so if you wanted to still be small you want to use it tiny brush you want to use your money to be really big you want to use a bigger brush and that's flat so you can see this precious black so if you're going to do a really big one that's the one that you want to use otherwise of cheese are really tiny brush for a really big tree will take a lot longer all right first thing I'm going to do is just a straight down the middle actually sorry round last night you can make it kind of way the line if you want you could do some grass it's like really like this with your paintbrush someone diagonal then we're going straight okay so now for my arteries I go down this is. do you know why because these trees aren't perfectly straight wonderful thing about painting nature is that is very forgiving over this line 2 just want to make sure that it's vertical that means it goes up and down a little bit and now I'm going to start with my brush remember I have this dress that's flat on one side that you're making little one and you'll just use the pencil I'm going to come down and kind of cruel Johnston mini bit I'm going to go down one side of my whole painting right now it doesn't matter if they're the right size or not because you're going to go back in and do layers on top what we definitely want to shoot for is that my uterus at the bottom and skinnier at the top I have little ones up here get a little bit more pain on my Rush starts to get that little dry brush look to it and you can kind of see through the canvas and actually looks neat like that for pine tree so you could do a couple lines like that was the dry brush do you still want them with a wet brush on top now I like to be sure that I got the center the middle parts yeah you can be the sky here they're just going to stick and got up just a teeny bit kind of sale. Just a long the tree trunk naked Feel Again if you're doing those countries I'll just do the same thing on the other side just go up and down and up and down all right so now for the next kind of tree that later this canvas other kind of tree that I'm going to show you how is 7 steps you doing this one once again and have some kind of ground so this one I'm just going to make end of distant little bit lady looks a bit like a hilly area sure I get all the way to those edges okay this tree is going to be like this one known as it doesn't have any blossoms or leaves or anything on it yet if we can do that later but if you want to make the entry you know how to do that that's only half of it and then if you want to do this one a little bit more challenging and it'll take a little bit longer I think it's worth a try if you want to do you like the way it looks so cute make what looks kind of like a y that get through a really big at the bottom okay so you could start doing this by making a straight and then make it a wavy why on the arms I like to think of them as arms so you can make those kind of wavy and then from there you'll have that straight line you can just start beginning both sides out like that I'm going to start with just now I'm going to make this a v y I'm using my speaker brush for this right now but I'm going to swap it out for a small one soon is this part with a bigger brush and don't worry if you get little bits of black somewhere because we're going to do branches and we can cover it up later now I'm going to just make my tree trunk wider when I get to the bottom flare out Melissa make it wider out all right that I have like two I'm going to swap out my brush and I'm going to get a little bit smaller birds this one I don't want to leave a black paint in there so I'm just going to stick it in my water and I'll wash it out later for this one I'm going to be holding my pallet because I'm going to dip a lot show The Next Step I'll send you the picture we're going to get it the other two branches and I like the way it looks when they're not exactly in the same place on both sides some trees to look like that I think it looks more like a natural Tree of Life just a little bit lower than the other and notice you see this part right here is it thicker than this park so the closer we are to this main part of the tree the figure our branches are and then the further away we go from it the skinny or they get free and it has a brand like this it's brants can't really hold any other big branches so we have to make sure about this part okay now liquor here get skinny hold on to the tree and one thing that I last time is your working with your canvas up at your enemy so then you might want to use you pinky to put on your canvas so that'll help you draw straighterline cuz it's kind of hard to just do it like this go in and make a sticker later no steps for this is where it gets really cool each of those branches we are going to make into a v putting another kind of wavy branch one side of it to all the blue areas are what we're going to add now to see how they just look like vvvvvv I also noticed how this is bicker and it gets thinner they go up you can choose whether you want that be 2 come at the top or the bottom of the French just a start BBC so I'm not going to just drop a beat on top of them actually actually Hickory where they come together see we got some loud RVs I like to do a wavy but you could do I know you're probably all doing that but when I show you what comes next you're going to just think oh well that's cool because it's kind of what we just did so letter V you can see you there black now the new part is blue and what did we just do they're all letter V again they just get smaller so you just made and if you decide you want to change anything along the way make anything sticker or anything like that you can stop making my fees kind of long because I'm going to have another set what type of bees that are even shorter any of your keys that your drawing then into a play Branch you can just slap it because we're going to have a lot of friends at the branch of that go in front of other branches and since we're only using black you can just go right on. you feel like you need to switch brushes you can do that measure B notice that one of your areas gets sick up here when we're in branches some space for it so that Brands can still hold it now one more time we're going to take all the bones and you can see the blue part some of them have it just right on the very tip of it some of them come down a little bit where you just look at it and decide how you want your tree to be do you want it to have more on one side than the other balance if you wanted to have felons find me areas that don't have anything maybe make your branch go that way make a new Branch what I'm going to do this one a little bit just what trees do I like to have my tree kind of bigger the bottom with you know I said arms before but like with his arm stretched out of the bottom and then kind of arch and I'm doing a glass branches around the outside I'm going to just try to make that kind of an arch shape with those not going to draw an art show you what I mean the Sun how it's wider right here if I drop pretend Arch over top of it to you see how kind of make that shape and their branches I need to make this one thicker cuz this guy refresh its kind of braids at the top like it's having a bad hair day you can put it in your black pants just roll it a little bit and it might help that point get Point ear it's not going to go through find any spot it looks like we're the new Branch forms like right here I'm just going to make that a little bit wider right almost like I'm done a little triangle just where it meets this branch and that's just so that that branch move on to the Big Branch if you have time you can always do it later if you want to or you don't need to do it at all miss all you could you go over that part of please right here this was my one of my big branches from the beginning as one of the menu for so you see how this little French comes off of there when I want do is just make this part a little bit and kind of draw a line and fill it in the camera let me see if I I'm here okay so I just want to make a little kind of feel that in a little bit more right there it's a little bit thicker I'll do it in another one so you can see all right let's see this one right here I just want to make that area you want me to my Branch that's okay I can just blend it in a little bit thicker just in that area where they neat here noun any questions did you understand that Davis family cuz it's a Little Bit Hurts this so cuz it's such a little detail so it's really not necessary. A little bit more advanced if you're ready for it detail okay now I'm going to let me treat you right and the one I made for the example today I was thinking about and summer when the act of God Summer Snow crabapple tree in the backyard and I love the day and it gets really windy and all of a sudden all the blossoms just fly all over the place and it looks like it's snowing things to happen every year and then most the blossoms and pedals are off of the tree so that's what I was thinking of when I made that so all I did was created little kind of food blobs it's all over the place I didn't even worry about where I put them on top of my branches I had some of them swirling over here so the thing is you got to make sure that this black part is totally dry before you do any of that white stuff on top otherwise do you know what will happen what color it will turn when black and white mix will turn gray maybe that's what you want. If it's not what you want how to make sure that that black part is dry a little bit of what that might look like with the white this one is honey so I can bring it over here so what is going to start making blobs and I can take my brush and I don't just do the very point that makes a very small one you put the point down and then just lean it a tiny bit it makes a shape that looks like a leaf when I can just do this like time to time and I like to make a random if they go on top of each other and top of it okay too I'm coming off the tree be careful cuz if I put it down and then make a breaststroke then I'll have funny really funny pedal I mean some of them are big and some of them are small like in real life blowing away hey do we have any questions about this part or about ranches or about how to do the only thing that you can do that if you want to once you go black try something that might be after this meeting all right so nobody has any questions then I mean I get it back you I think Miss Amanda or is it mr.
